Sustainability

At RBS, being sustainable means more than just managing our environmental impact. It means being a responsible and active member of the communities we work in.

We know that corporations have a responsibility that goes beyond providing services to customers, and we want to do our part. At RBS India we’re focused on how we can address the needs of underprivileged communities, using our people’s talents to help tackle their long term challenges and integrate them into the mainstream economy.

Breaking the cycle

RBS Foundation India was founded as a non-profit organisation in 2007 to support enterprise and entrepreneurship in poorer communities. Our ‘Supporting Enterprise’ programme aims to break the cycle of poverty, and help produce sustainable economic improvement where it’s needed most, particularly where people rely on the country’s natural resources to make their living.

Working in partnership with local non-governmental organisations we’ve delivered projects in locations across the country, from tribal craft development in Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu; to eco tourism in Manglajodi, Odisha; by way of enhancing agricultural livelihoods in the hills of Uttrarakhand.

Helping the community

Our people are essential to making these projects work, and they fully share in our aim of working together to make a difference. Through our flagship volunteering programme ‘Magic Hands at Work’, colleagues across all our locations are directly involved in the success of Supporting Enterprise projects, while developing new skills and learning about issues such as climate change and sustainable development.

We take a strategic approach to engaging our people with social causes. Our aim is to promote individual social responsibility, and create culture where people have the opportunity to learn and contribute.

Enable – building knowledge of issues like poverty, climate change, and sustainable development through training, field trips information sharing.

Create –establishing channels which make it easy for colleagues to engage with and contribute to causes in cash, kind and time.

Foster – encouraging and supporting colleagues as they create, manage and measure the impacts of volunteering projects.
