The RHI Credit Risk Team supports the global Credit Risk function in a team extension model, covering the credit risk assessments for counterparties globally, across all client sectors. The team analyses the management, industry, and business model of the company, identifies key risks and mitigants as well as provides a comprehensive financial assessment. This is presented in the form of a credit application with financial spreads, including historical and forecast financial modelling, risk grading, LGD, PD and EAD recommendations. It is responsible for extracting and discussing credit limits and challenging or considering them with the credit officers, based on the annual need to review the limits.

"As a member of the Credit Risk team, I’ve been involved in key lending transactions and complex deals for RBS. These are very much focused on customer satisfaction, and include acquisition financing for the world’s largest consumer appliances company, syndicated lending for the UK’s largest retailer, and various annual reviews. My work with the onshore credit team helped get sanctions for RBS' participation in these time-sensitive deals, as well as helping to effectively manage the risks and appetite for the bank.

Coming from an Investment Banking background, I had to change my viewpoint from that of an equity professional to a credit risk professional. My manager supported me on this journey, providing the opportunity to spend two weeks undergoing on-the-job training with the onshore credit team in London. This helped me develop my understanding of the credit process, by actively interacting with various stakeholders. During this program, I also contributed to an on-going transaction (acquisition financing for the largest US drugstore chain), which resulted in a successful $250m term loan and RCF financing, and was appreciated by senior underwriters. Today, I’m independently responsible for the credit risk management of my portfolio of valued customers.

My mentor, who is the Sector Lead for EMEA CRH (Consumer, Retail, Healthcare), has helped me develop as a risk professional and understand different opportunities in the bank.

We have a very strong culture of openness to ideas and innovation. The senior management is highly employee friendly, and encourages an open-door policy. The direct contact I had with the CEO (Ross McEwan), when he visited the Gurgaon office, will remain a cherished memory. As a part of the iThink committee, which vets ideas from our colleagues, I’m in constant admiration of the creativity which is brought to the monthly meetings."
