The Business

The Role

 

The person needs to be responsible for understanding the business requirements and proactively seeking clarity and resolving ambiguities, designing a robust and quality solution, coding and unit testing , delivery into mission critical productions environments, ensuring the high quality of the delivered service, diagnosing and taking ownership of any issues that may arise, and mitigating and rapidly resolving these.
The person will need to be aware of technology development best practices, optimal design / coding standards while also working with the Team Leads/Tech Leads in ensuring success of the project plan.

What the Business Does

OTP (Operational Tax Program) platform incorporates shared solution for FATCA, Common Reporting Standard (CRS) and CDOT. CRS was signed as a multilateral agreement between 51 countries, including UK and will be written into local law in 2015 and regulated via local government / competent authorities (e.g. in the UK via HMRC. The purpose of the program is to eventually deliver a customer tax operation and platform to handle all regulatory requirements in this space and to be compliant with the law.

The application takes feed from all RBSG source systems to determine the tax status of the customer and finally reports them to local and relevant tax authorities like HMRC and IRS.

 

Your Responsibilities

 

  • To take technical responsibility of overall project design by ensuring end-to-end ownership of all technical aspects,
  • Implement best development practices, input to project plans, understanding business domain and proactively improving system scalability, robustness, performance and flexibility
  • To ensure delivered software is maintainable and supportable, and is coded with attention to robustness, performance, stability, scalability and testability.
  • To contribute effectively to projects by preparing and getting agreement on designs, leading code reviews and hands-on software development.
  • The ability to analyse the various quality dimensions including performance, reliability and resilience, and design and implement improvements to meet them.
  • To ensure decisions related to own area of responsibility are taken promptly and effectively while displaying a mature understanding of commercial awareness.
  • To ensure full adherence of the agreed projects timelines and specifications by closely monitoring the progress, contributing to the creation of project plan, identifying & mitigating risks, resolving issues and development of software.
  • To ensure there is clear understanding of project by using appropriate channels of communication with business stakeholders and project teams.
  • Understand latest technical standards and how they apply to the platform.
  • Provide technical support for non project specific questions/issues as and when raised.

 

Skills you need (Mandatory Skills)

  • 5+ years of experience in a development role.
  • Has worked extensively in Oracle, PL/SQL based design and development of at least 1 large scale project on Unix platform.
  • Expertise in Oracle, PL/SQL and Unix.
  • Performance Tuning
  • Knowledge on Job Scheduling.
  • Good experience in Application/System Design
  • Through in Change Management standards Desirable.
  • Good Problem Solving skills
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a quick learner and able to work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Strong team player; able to accept and deliver assistance to meet deadlines; self-directed, organized, capable of multi-tasking, and willing to shift priorities to meet business needs

Desirable:

  • Exposure to Operational Tax domain.
  • Exposure to Banking domain
